The inaugural post (gee, there aren't enough blogs already?)

Yeah, so why still yet another blog?

Why not?

I was going to do this at www.catastrophicstructuralfailure.com (don't bother going there - there's no content at present), but decided to set up a blog instead, on the off chance that someone might want to reply to something I've written.

I don't know how often I'll post, but I'm going to try to be more current than at my other page - six months between updates is a bit much.
